The story we find ourselves in

Creation:
Sometimes, when your imagination takes you to lofty, dizzying dimensions, this realisation can climb up your spine and surprise you so that you physically shiver: Not only could God exist, but such a being could create a universe with a creature like me in it, a creature like me, capable of thoughts and ideas... like these, right now.

Imagine this majestic Being considering the possibility of creating other beings that really, really, exist. Not just imaginary beings. Not just puppets, actors, dream images, but beings that are given the gift that is most absolute, a gift that only God can give; the gift of being, of existing, of standing out of nothingness into reality.

This is the first episode of the story. We have to start here in order to understand who we are; part of a larger creation and connected to it, but also given a unique status - created in 'our image' says God.

In the story we find a need for connection with God, with creation, and in particular with the rest of humanity. We have this God-given identity that is good and very good. We feel an inescapable responsibility to be stewards of the rest of creation - just as a gardener cares for a garden. We aren't orphans. We aren't an accident. We aren't on our own. We aren't in charge. It's not our world, to do with whatever we want.

Everything we know is part of God's creation.

This is the story we find ourselves in.
