Why we do it

Carols in the Park (CITP) started 15 years ago when a couple of church members from the Methleys visited an open-air Christmas Carol event in Australia.

They said that it worked so well that Chapel A should reproduce something similar in Leeds; mind you, Christmas is during the summer in Australia!

So, 1996 saw the first CITP in Chapel Allerton, with the singers and musicians performing on the back of a lorry. Over the years the event has grown and changed, although we have been keen to ensure that its simple format and community feel remains.

Chapel A gives CITP as a gift to the community. We hope that it is an opportunity for the community to get together and, although it sounds a cliché, celebrate what Christmas is really all about.

We celebrate the birth of a person, around whom our calendar revolves and who we believe to be God coming to earth as a man. This is a loving, forgiving and healing God, who wants us to know him and enjoy the full life he has for us.
